What makes writing “good”?
There isn’t really a perfect answer - not one short enough to fit onto this page, at least. Though a rewarding process indeed, writing can often lead to a sense of feeling stuck, being lost in direction, and even second-guessing your own insightful thoughts.
It can end up being a painful process, one that this writer knows all too well. In fact, over the years, I’ve become something of an expert in finding ways to get “un-stuck.”
But I didn’t start out that way (at least, not at first).

My Story
My heart has been with creative writing ever since childhood - growing up in the rustic outskirts of Kansas City, fiction was a perfect window for escapism and thinking about possibilities, and soon I began to experiment with the genre myself.
It quickly became a fascinating and entertaining experience. As I got older, though, I realized exactly how challenging it can be.
After encountering the formal (and oft-shifting) standards of academic and professional writing, it wasn’t long before I started questioning my skills. Would a future audience or client think my work was “good?” What does that even mean?
My Education
It took some time for me to obtain my BA in English, first starting at Northwest Missouri State in 2015, before transferring to UMKC in 2017. But a period of burnout and depression disrupted my education and confidence, and I began to doubt whether I’d get them back.
The chaos of the new decade brought to me an ADHD diagnosis and the loss of a parent; it also delivered an important lesson about our ability to find new ways to grow and evolve, which led me to Park University in 2023.
Two years and a bachelor’s degree later, I’ve since become motivated by the experiences which taught me that knowledge and ideas can come from just about anywhere. It’s a notion that I believe can be used to the benefit of oneself and others - such as you, dear reader.
My Passions
Motivation doesn’t just exist in a vacuum. My love for writing - and for providing guidance to others - is informed by years of experiences both within the field as well as without.
What kinds of “experiences,” you may be asking? Well…
Creativity, from world-building to problem-solving
Storytelling, in all of its forms and genres.
Learning, and the best ways to broaden a mind.
Self-expression, and being vulnerable in an uncertain world.
Digital media, and all the new ways to share what you know.
